Self Service Movers

‘Moving Yourself’ is one of the most favored options, which people take mainly due to cost considerations. Self moving is also undertaken by people who love to lay their hands on all things personal – and it is not uncommon to see these people getting tremendous satisfaction and feeling a great sense of pride when they see a job well accomplished, which they did from scratch.

If you are one of the DIY persons, you would probably be looking forward to your relocation to another new city. While self moving is a brilliant choice that you have made, the whole operation can happened without a hitch if you take care of some big as well as smaller details before you start your moving exercise. Amongst the big things that you need to put in place are:

1)A truck which you will take on rent.

2)Corrugated packing boxes in a variety of sizes.

3)Adequate packing paper.

4)A couple of rolls of bubble wrap.

5)Shrink wrap plastic

No big assignment can be completed without the help of smaller accessories. These include:

1)Tape gun

2)Plenty of rolls of tape

3)Markers

4)Labels to label your boxes

5)Pen and paper to make an inventory list of goods being shipped.

Packing and moving is a tough job. Mattress covers, sofa and chair bags, packing peanuts and accessories like these can ease the load of self moving. When you are renting a truck, it makes sense to hire a hand truck and some furniture pads. This can make the task of loading and unloading easy on your arms and hands.

Loading goods on to a truck can not be done in a haphazard manner. There is a system which professional loaders follow and there is no reason why you can not follow them too, when you are self moving. The order of things are that the largest things like furniture and appliances are stacked first; the heaviest boxes should be loaded at the bottom and the lightest on top. Stack them according to weight. The truck has a large interior and you need to load one section of the truck at a time, loading the space right from floor to ceiling filling all the spaces in between with smaller packages and boxes. This keeps all the goods intact and they will not move around during transit. Mattresses, tables, sofas and other horizontally long items should be stacked against the wall of the truck. Mirrors and picture frames should be kept erect, folded in blankets and if possible tied to the walls of the truck. Remember to load the most essential items like kitchen ware and official document boxes right at the end, so when you are unloading the essential items can be accessed first.

After all the goods are packed in order, the truck locked, you will have to drive the rented truck to your new destination. Since this is an unfamiliar vehicle being a rented truck, you have to know the gauges before hand. The fluid levels must be checked before and during the journey. Remember never to tailgate during the journey and drive slowly during inclement weather. While changing lanes give the right signals, and check your mirrors often. It is always good to drive only for 8 hours a day with a few breaks in between.

Following the above tips carefully, your self moving experience will be a moving one
